Fishing action on the East Walker River has been good for the few who will layer up and go.On January 15TH I ran my first guide trip of 2010.Ken and Paul in Tahoe from Indiana decided to try some winter fishing and were rewarded for their efforts.We had a good hatch of midges and a few small BWO`S, fishing small midge dries was working well.Paul had never tried fly fishing and caught on to indicator nymphing rather quickly.Ken cheered Paul on as he hooked his first fish about 15″ brown.Both Ken and Paul caught several fish topped by Pauls 22″ brown,not bad!As a guide I had a great time watching the guy’s catching fish and having a fun time. On monday January 25TH after a week of storm systems I called my good fishing buddy and fellow guide Scott Freeman who recently returned from a couple months of steelhead fishing on the Trinity River,to meet me on the East Walker for some fishing.The recent storms had left about 18″ of fresh snow around the river.I arrived at around 10:30 am and dug a spot out to park,shortly after Scott showed up we rigged up and bust first tracks in the fresh snow to get to the water. As soon as we could see the water we could see fish feeding on mdges on the sutface.We had good action on small midge dries for several hours on mostly 10″ to 15″ brown trout. I decided to try nymphing in a deeper slot with a size 18 zebra midge in black trailed by a size 20 barrs emerger and was quickly hooked up with a large brown 23″long it ended up.We had alot of fun and released a lot of fish. Don’t sit at home and get cabin fever when there is good fishing to be had we are on the water constantly and are ready to put you on some nice fish.So dust off your gear and give us a call and let’s go fishing.Guided trips available 7 days a week.
