Florida Trip

Left two weeks ago with two inches of fresh snow on the ground to meet up with my east coast fishing buddy for a couple of weeks in Florida.  Primary goal was to complete my punch card with a Silver King…Tarpon.  Found the severely cold winter took its toll on the Florida fish population.  Tarpon were far and few, but did manage to land this 80 pound beauty…

Did not see a single Bone or Permit on the entire trip.  Heavy winds and stormy seas made fly fishing a real challenge.  Had one beautiful afternoon on the flats where I was able to put my buddy in front of 15 Tarpon only to have them show absolutely no interest in the fly…not even a blink!

Left the Keys, stowed the fly rod, and spent a few days on Lake Okeechobee with Bassmaster Elite Series Pro Steve Daniel.  We caught bass till our arms fell off and Steve let go with a few of his trade secrets.  Even had one early morning challenge with an alligator as to who would get the next fish first.

Back to reality and ready for a great season of guiding on our home waters.
