Fishing Report for the West and East Walker Rivers, West and East Carson Rivers, The Truckee River and Little Truckee River, and many Tahoe area still waters. Updated July 5th, 2011
We offer guided fly fishing year round on the Carson, Truckee and Walker Rivers.
East Carson River Fishing Report – Currently flowing at 1800+ cfs.
Above Hangman’s Bridge – With Summer finally here, fish have been stocked but flows are high!! Not saying you couldn’t catch a fish in the eddies or along the edges but the river is blown out but it looks like the flows are starting to come down! Try Big Streamers and Big Stonefly Nymphs if you have to… Rafting is great!
Catch and Release section below Hangman’s Bridge: The East Carson tends to really slow down during the high water. Access is impossible due to the high flows. Maybe fishable by the beginning of July but more than likely the middle to end of July before we see appropriate flows. Stay tuned for further info and look for flows to be down to 1500 CFS for possible opportunities.
West Carson River Fishing Report – Currently flows are at 350+ cfs.
The West Carson has been stocked. Flows are high and on their way down, but fish can still be caught and the fish have been spread out. Nymphing was the way to go with Stonefly’s and large attractor patterns. These newly planted fish are not looking up for Dries as of yet, but small black Stoneflies have been hatching. Yellow Sallies are here as well! Nymphs- Fox’s Poopah tan 12-16, size 8-10 Stonefly’s, 10-16 Mayfly’s black and olive 16-18, pheasant tails 12-16. Streamers-Buggers in olive, white and black, Wool-Head Sculpins, Crystal Buggers, Meat Whistle olive and black. Dries- It will be awhile but when it does happen it should be great this year. Look for this river to be one of the first fishable freestone rivers in our area by the end of the week.
West Walker River Fishing Report- Currently flows are at 2000+ cfs.
Flows are high! Maybe a Streamer? OK, never mind…
East Walker River Fishing Report- Flows are 780+ cfs.
The fish are concentrated in the deeper buckets and along the shoreline/banks. There are very few places at these flows that can be fished. Fish are still being caught, and the larger Rainbows and Browns are going to be a little more willing to eat a fly with the higher flows. Caddis have been showing with a few being taken on the surface when the flows were a bit lower. For dries try small Para Adams, Blue Duns, EC Caddis and Black Cripples. (When the flows come down) The Streamer bite has been doable but go big and try for the trophy. Nymphs- Zebra Midges black and red size 20-22, Wier’s Sprinkles Vanilla and Chocolate 18-20, Tailwater Tiny’s in olive and black size18-22, Rainbow Warrior black and red size 20-22, Fox’s Poopah 16-18, Hares Ear size 16-20, Pheasant Tails 18-20, Micro Mayflys’s 18-20, San Juan Worms, Golden Stones, Barr’s Emergers 18-20. Dries- Blue Duns 16-20, Para Adams 16-20, Black Cripples 20-22, Stimulators 10-12. Streamers- Olive and Tan Cone-Head Sculpins, Olive and White buggers, Natural and Pearl Zonkers. As well as anything as big as a Squirrel!
Guides Available call (530-541-8208). Not really worth guiding until we see a bit lower flows again…
Little Truckee River Fishing Report- Flows are 800+ cfs.
Fewer spots that can be fished but still fishing if you want to fight the high flows. Look for small Stoneflies, Baetis, PMDs and Small Midge Patterns working well this time of year. Streamer fishing is worth a shot at these flows! Nymphs- Rainbow Warriors in Black and Red sizes 18-20, WD-40′s grey and olive 18-22, Barr’s Emergers 18-20, Wier’s Sprinkle’s 18-20 and don’t forget the San Juan Worm in Tan or Red. Dries- Try Blue Duns 18-20, Para Adams 18-22, Black Cripples, Beetles and Ants. Streamers- Olive and Tan Cone-Head Sculpins, Olive and White Buggers, Natural and Pearl Zonkers
Guides Available call (530-541-8208). One of two rivers we will guide at this point.
Truckee River (Ca) Fishing Report- Flows on the Truckee are 500+ cfs near the town of Truckee, 2000+ cfs below Boca Bridge.
Pretty much Blown Out but fishing early along the edges for an occasional fish. Streamers, Big nymphs, Green Drake Nymphs, Copper johns and Yellow Sallies.
Truckee River (Nv) Fishing Report- Flows on the Truckee in Nevada are 2300+ cfs
Pretty much blown out… Hopefully in a week or two!
Tahoe area Still waters:
Indian Creek Reservoir - Fishing is on! Water Levels are way up, they have stocked big bows and they are on the prowl! Try brown buggers, Damsels and Aggravator Princes with a slow strip. Blood Midges and Calibaetis nymphs under the indicator have been working as well. Occasional hatch of Calibaetis and the fish get on them for a short period!
Guides Available call (530-541-8208). We are guiding from boats with moderate success.
Pyramid Lake- Closed for the season, can’t wait until next year!
Caples Lake Fishing Report- The Lake is thawed and fishing well around Woods Creek as well as the Dam area and the Spillway. Buggers, Streamers, Damsel Nymphs, Calibaetis Nymphs and Hares Ear Nymphs. Look for fish cruising the shoreline. Boat rentals at Caples Lake Resort make for a great adventure and better access to the back bays.
Guides Available call (530-541-8208).
Red Lake Fishing Report- It is thawed and fishing well! San Juan Worms and a Hares Ear Nymph under an indicator works great in the upper part of the lake. Otherwise Streamers, Buggers, Leeches, Damsels and Aggravators on a sinking line and it fishes best form a float tube. Shore fishing is OK…
Guides Available call (530-541-8208).
Spooner Lake Fishing Report- Fishing well from float tubes or from shore with numerous fish being caught on Leech Patterns, Damsels and Calibaetis. Tiger Trout up to 17 inches and bigger are the attraction to this still water as well as Rainbows and Cutthroat! This will start to slow as the temperatures rise!

Marlette Lake Fishing Report- Closed for the season
Blue Lakes Fishing Report- Road closed.
Silver Lake fishing report- Lots of snow around but thawed and worth a fish! Same bugs as Caples and Red Lake… Fish the area on the south end of the lake where the creek comes in. Ants are also around!
