Upcoming 6 day intensive Fly Fishing School

Here is some exciting news!  This year we will be offering a 6 Day Intensive Fly Fishing School along side of our yearly Fly Fishing Guide School.  We have learned over the last 5 years of doing the Guide School that not all of our participants were interested in learning to be a guide but actually just wanted to become better fly fishermen.  This year we decided to take that feedback and offer a school for those just interested in taking their fly fishing skills to the next level.  Some of the workshops when appropriate will have both groups working side by side.  These include casting workshops, knot tying and rigging, entomology and fly selection, and rowing a drift boat to name a few.  All of the other time the groups will be split to work on their specific emphasis.  We are really excited about this and we look forward to working with both groups this year.  Specific information will be posted on the website soon.  If you have questions now, feel free to call or email me.

Full Day Introduction to Fly Fishing

OK. So you have wanted to learn to fly fish for a long time.  No doubt you have thought and talked about it ad naseum.  Always an excuse to be found.  Well now is the time to get it done right.  For a small investment of $100, you can get the proper instruction and the pertinent information necessary to get you started on you own fly fishing journey.  And this is the right way to do it.  Don’t be one of those guys or gals that trusts their buddy to teach them.  Ever learn to ski from one of these people.  When I guided I used to see the water littered with these poor souls.  I used to think if only they had been given the right stuff from the beginning, they would be having a hell of a lot more fun. I decided to get back in the industry this year because I missed the teaching part so much.  After teaching fly fishing classes at LTCC for three years I was able to help quite a few folks like yourself get started.  Join me soon.  We are scheduled for June 24th and July 22nd.  We may add or change dates as necessary but Sunday seems to work best for me.  Call the shop for further information.

Floating the East Truckee River

A Photo of the Float by Marcus Bradley

On Tuesday, I floated the East Truckee River, with recent TFFO Guide School Graduates, Marcus Bradley and Seth Hofland. While water was high flowing at 654 cfs and slightly stained. We still hooked 9 fish and were able to land 4 of them, all about 12-16″ on the indicator, we did hook two larger fish but like typically Truckee River Steel, they took large runs and came unbutton with head shakes. We had one follow on a streamer but no takes. While Run-off has started, flows are still at a good level to fish and catch fish!! Float Guide Trips are available…. and if you have never floated I highly recommend it!

EAST WALKER RIVER SPRING FISHING GOOD

The East Walker River is fishing well in both California and Nevada.Fishing has been good and all different offerings have been getting bites, dries, nymphs, streamers.Plenty of browns and rainbows to keep you busy.Current flows 63 cfs in California and slightly higher in Nevada. At current flows and warming water temps. we are seeing a mix of winter and spring hatches.Midges and mayflies up high and some stoneflies when you get further down river. Our guide trips have done very well lately. We guide both California and Nevada including Sceirine Ranch private water. With warming weather the next couple of months should fish very well. This is a great time of year to take a guided trip .You can book through the website or call our shop at (530) 541-8208.It’s time to get out and do some fishing, the guys in the shop will hook you up with the right gear and flies. We are still on winter hours 10am to 5pm closed Weds . snd Sun. TRINITY RVER STEELHEAD BITING

Trinity River steelhead are biting and the river is back in great shape after recent weather.Good flows and water conditions have brought in the winter run steelhead and they are responding well.Lots of fresh fish in the river and mild weather should make February a great month on the Trinity.Don’t miss out on this great oppurtunity to get in on some great steelhead fishing. We are getting into several fish a day with some brown trout in the mix. This last week the fish wer eating nymphs under indicators in colored water.Large egg patterns, stone fly and mayflie nymphs working well. The water is clearing and flows dropping which will increase surface activity with on browns and the occasional rising steelhead eating mayfly patterns. When fishing the Trinity we recommend booking two or more days to have the best chance to connect with some of these great fighting fish.I have a WINTER RUN SPECIAL $695.00 FOR TWO DAYS of guided drift boat fishing including tackle and lunch for one or two anglers. To book a trip call me at (530)318-7073 or call the shop at (530)541-8208.Please feel free to call with any questions you may have.I have a good lodging available at at Indian Creek Lodge in Douglas City ,please call for info.

TRINITY RIVER STEELHEAD ANYONE?

Trinity River steelhead fishing has been great this season.Tahoe Fly Fishing and guide Peter Santley are now offering guided steelhead drift trips on the Trinity River.I was able to get a permit to guide the Trinity River and have a Winter Run Special $695.00 for two days of guided drift boat fishing for steelhead.Trips include tackle and lunch for one or two anglers. With the Trinity finally seeing some rain this week it should make what has been a good season even better. We should have good fishing on the Trinity River through February maybe early March.Winter run tends to have more wild fish and usually some of the largest steelhead of the season are caught, and the occasional sea run brown trout. If you would like to hook one of these fresh water freight trains give me a call  at (530) 318-7073 or our shop for booking at (530) 541-8208 or for information, lodging etc.I have the Indian Creek Lodge working with me to provide nice accomodations on the river in Douglas City, clean rooms, friendly staff and great location.I would like to thank fellow TFFO guide Corey Funk for the use of his drift boat to make this possible.

Come and feel the steel,
