I had the privilege to guide and fish for three days on the Sceirine ranch, which is a 2.5 mile private section of the East Walker River. My client and I, Joe Hagler from southern California had a wonderful day with many fish hooked and landed on nymphs and streamers. The trout were all big and strong running 17″ to 21″. The scenery was beautiful and the pressure was zero, well worth the $80 full day rod fee and $50 for a half day. Contact Tahoe Fly Fishing Outfitters for information on guided trip to “The Ranch” or any other of our private waters including, Pleasant Valley and Sawmill Lake. I would like to give special thanks to Scott Freeman at Ken’s Sporting Goods in Bridgeport, home of the Sceirine Ranch.
I had the privilege of spending the day fishing with two awesome young men from Layton, Utah. Jonathan and Zack picked things up pretty quickly and although the wind never let up on us, we were able to catch and land a few fish. Great job guys! The water is clear but still cold in the morning. It did heat up to 52 by the early afternoon. Prince nymphs, egg patterns, and natural color san jaun worms were once again the ticket. Supposedly the West Carson was on the stocking list for this week but it did not look like they had stocked anything prior to us leaving . Maybe it came later in the afternoon. If so, should make for a great weekend of fishing. Sadly, I saw and picked up a bagful of garbage down in the Pickett’s Jct. area. Please help keep the area clean by packing out and picking up.
Couple of photos from last year down at Red Wash!
East Walker River, Nevada 6-3-08
Had a great day on the Walker with one of my new guides! Got a late start and did not get to the river until afternoon and the fishing was on from the moment we got there and slowed down around 5 pm. Lots of stockers? Don’t know how they got there, but every hole had numerous fish. It was a numbers day with no big fish… I don’t know if they were stocked at the Elbow and migrated up stream or if NDOW put them in right at Red Wash (the gate was down and vehicles had been driving past and maybe a stocking truck?) anyway, only a couple of wild fish were caught. No dries, just emergers (Caddis) and a lot of wind. If it is all about getting someone into numerous fish, go to the Elbow area or fish Red Wash. We did not see another angler which is one of the bonuses for fishing Nevada instead of California this time of the year! No photos today but I will post a few from last year just for fun! The fishing is good, get out and fish! Call the shop for a more detailed report. 877-541-8208

Hey guys. Just checking in with an East Carson river report. We fished it last night and it was on fire. The fish were actively feeding despite the big flows. We were very successful fishing with large stones, egg patterns and olive streamers. All produced fish with in the 12 -14 inch range with 2 fish over 20 inches. Try to vary your streamer retrieves. Start by casting up stream and retrieving downstream, then try to swing them in front of the holes you are fishing with a slow upstream presentation. Both were highly productive. Keep an eye on the flows. If it gets too much warmer than the river could quite possibly get back up over 1000 CFS thus making it unfishable again. Let us know how you do and please catch and release. Good luck everyone!
