Classes and Clinics
Our personalized classes give the novice and experienced alike tips and information on successful fly fishing. All classes are taught by local experts in casting, tying, and fly fishing.
Full Day Introduction to Fly Fishing Course — $100 per person
May 24, July 27, Aug 9, Aug 10, and Aug 17.
Course Curriculum Includes:
- Knots and riggings
- Entomology and fly selection
- Trout behavior
- Reading water
- Safe wading techniques
- Presenting the fly & understanding the drift
- Fly casting–including the overhead, roll, and lob cast
- Local fly fishing options
As this is a non-fishing course you will not need a license unless you are going to fish after the course is complete. Most of the class will take place outside, weather permitting.
Participants need to bring lunch, water, appropriate clothing, a portable outdoor chair, and any of your own equipment. Rods, reels, waders, and boots (all necessary except waders in the summer) can be rented at the shop.
This course will provide you with all the necessary information and techniques to begin your own personal fly fishing adventure!
Basic and Advanced Fly Tying — $75 per course
Learn to tie common patterns that catch fish
In the Basic class, we will teach beginners to tie all of the basics. Learn to tie the Wooly Bugger, Hares Ear Nymph, Pheasant Tail Nymph, Elk Hair Caddis, and a Parachute Adams. By the time you finish one of our classes you will be able to tie most of the basic patterns. Our Advanced class deals with more complex patterns and techniques. Both courses consist of three two-hour sessions normally conducted during evening hours.
Basic Entomology — $25 per hour (2 hr min.)
Learn which fly to use and catch more fish
We will teach you how to identify basic aquatic bugs in either moving or still waters, the life cycle of the insect, and how to best imitate and fish that particular insect. This course will also help you become a better fly tyer by having a better understanding of what you are actually tying.
Casting Instruction — $50 per hour
Our FFF certified Instructors will help you improve your game
Our FFF certified casting instructors will teach you how to cast better. Whether you are a beginner or an experieced angler trying to work out some casting kinks, we can help.
Introduction to Fly Fishing — $50 per person
A dryland introduction to the sport
This adventure consists of 3-4 hours of instruction on fly fishing. We teach the basics of the fly cast, as well as the proper techniques needed to catch a trophy trout on a fly. We also explain the different types of equipment needed for fly fishing, fly fishing specific knots, reading water and selecting the proper flies. And, most importantly, we teach the skills of proper catch and release techniques. We save plenty of time for all questions and answers. We supply all of the necessary equipment needed for this class. However, please be prepared with proper clothing for a day in the outdoors. This would be the perfect adventure for those who have not fly fished before, or those who have little experience. The fee is $50 per person. Minimum of 2 people. Maximum is 30 people per session with 2 or 3 sessions per day. No license required. There is no actual fishing in this introduction.
Corporate Introduction to Fly Fishing and Group Guided Trips — Call
Fly fishing is an excellent Team building and group retreat event!
Corporate Introduction to Fly Fishing courses, Half Day and Full Day Guided Trips! Our corporate rates are all-inclusive and have a maximum of a 1 to 3 ratio of Guide To Client. All Introduction courses are instructional only, with no actual fishing. Half Day and Full Day trips are on the water and include fishing time and instruction. Transportation and lunches can be set up at an additional rate. Minimum of 6 and Maximum of 30 anglers per session.
