Giving Back to our Waters and Our Communities
Sawmill Pond Kids’ Fishing — June 9, 2012
A kids fishing pond (14 years and younger only) located in South Lake Tahoe. One of only two such fisheries set aside for kids fishing where they do not have to compete with adults. We have been volunteering at the annual Optimists Kids’ fishing derby helping kids catch fish and setting them up with tackle and prizes.
This year’s event will be held on Saturday June 9, 2012, rain or shine! Call the shop for details.
Take Kids Fly Fishing
In conjunction with the kids fishing ponds and derbies, we support the Take Kids Fly Fishing program. See their website for additional information and for a list of events.
We have been working with Jenny Hatch from the Northern Sierra Region Office here in South Lake Tahoe. Projects include Earth Day, Environmental Film Festival, Free clinics for members and a host of others. Victor Babbitt was awarded the Streamkeeper Award for the year 2010!M
We work with Trout Unlimited and Dave Lass on various projects and campaigns in and around the greater Lake Tahoe area. Hoping to see some wonderful improvements on the Little Truckee River!
Friends of Hope Valley
Our guides have been helping with the Hope Valley clean up day which takes place every Spring on Memorial Day weekend. Planting Willows and cleaning up the West Carson River!
El Dorado County Fish & Game Commission
Victor Babbitt has been the District 5 commissioner for the past 6 years. Mostly working on Kids fishing Derbies as well as other Fish and Wildlife issues in and around El Dorado County!
Now using biodegradable shopping bags, Corn based fly cups, recyclable water bottles for guided trips, recycling our garbage, collecting monofilament streamside and teaching “Catch and Release” techniques to all of our clients!
A Big Thank You to all of our guides that have volunteered for these efforts and hopefully many more in the future!
