Tahoe area fishing report for Nov 20th, 2010

We  offer guided fly fishing year round on the Carson, Truckee and Walker rivers. Lots of snow falling around the Tahoe area right now.



East Carson River fishing report – Currently flowing at 126cfs. Above Hangman’s Bridge – Closed till last Sat in April. Catch and release section below Hangman’s Bridge Lots of snow in the forcast for the next few days in Tahoe. The East Carson tends to really slow down during the winter months. Nymphing with small baetis and midge patterns is the best bet during this time of year. Try nymphing the slow tailouts and deeper pools with wd-40’s, zebra midges, rainbow warriors and baetis patterns. For dries try size 18-20 blue duns and size 20-22 black cripples.  Nymphs- October caddis nymphs 10-12, Fox’s poopah tan 16-18, size 18 Z-wing caddis, micro mayfly’s black and olive 16-18, pheasant tails 16-18, zebra midges 18-20, Wier’s sprinkles vanilla and chocolate 18-20. Streamers-buggers in olive in black, woolhead sculpins, crystal buggers, meat whistle olive and black.  Dries-October caddis 8-10, yellow and orange stimulators 8-12, ec caddis 18-20, tan elk hair caddis 16-18, parachute adams 16-24, hackle stacker bwo’s 16-18, trico spinners 18-20, black cripples size 20,  Wier’s hopper, ants and beetles. West Walker River fishing report– Closed till last Saturday in April – Guides Available call (530-541-8208).

East Walker River fishing report- Flows are  22cfs. The fish are concentrated in the deeper buckets. Small baetis and midge nymphs are still working well. For dries try small para adams, blue duns and black cripples. Fun time to target a few risers during the warmer part of the day.  Streamers- Olive and Tan cone-head sculpins, olive and white buggers, natural and pearl zonkers. Little Truckee River fishing report– Flows are down to 40cfs. No word on how the road will be after this storm. Baetis and small midge patterns work well this time of year. rainbow warriors in black and red sizes 18-20, wd-40’s grey and olive 18-22, barrs emergers 18-20, Wier’s sprinkle’s 18-20. Truckee River fishing report– Flows on the Truckee are 148cfs  near the town of Truckee and 304cfs below Boca bridge.  Nymphing with small baetis and midge patterns has been working well. Look for fish rising to baetis and midges throughout the warmest part of the day. Nymphs- October caddis 8-10,  Fox’s Poopah olive and tan 16-18, pheasant tails 16-20, Wier’s sprinkles 18-20, prince nymphs 14-18, micro mays 18-20, black and olive zebra midges 18-20. Dries- orange stimulators 8-10, Blue duns 18-20, hackle stacker bwo’s 18-20, para adams 18-22 . Guides Available call (530-541-8208).


Tahoe area Still waters

Indian Creek Reservoir fishing report– Fishing is slowing down. Try buggers and aggravator princes with a slow strip. Guides Available call (530-541-8208).

Caples Lake fishing report- Lots of snow. Try sight fishing for cruisers using streamers once the sun comes out again. Guides Available call (530-541-8208).

Red Lake fishing report– Fishing well.  Try olive and black buggers.  Midges under an indicator in the evening. Some fish have also been rising to terrestrials. Guides Available call (530-541-8208).

Marlette Lake fishing report– Closed for the season

Spooner Lake fishing report– Fishing well if you can get through the chubs. Try Rickard’s seal buggers and small woolly buggers.  Stripping aggravator princes and hares ears size 14 -16 just under the surface has been effective. Terrestrials will work to pick up some of the risers.
