Stillwater Ice Out Clinic

With the thawing from Winter to Spring comes opportunities on our Sierra lakes. The ice begins to thaw and the fish start looking for bigger food as lake temperatures rise and the ice backs awa from the edges. The wildlife hasn’t seen a lot of human presence and the fish haven’t seen a lot of flies. It’s a beautiful time to take a stillwater clinic and learn the bugs and techniques to target big trout.

Walking up to the river can pose a lot of questions for anglers and understanding flows, reading water and how fish eat for any given season can give help you put more fish in the net and make the experience so much more rewarding.

Full Day Introduction to Fly Fishing
Our Pro Staff will start with a solid foundation of fly fishing 101 and continue into advanced techniques and strategy for catching fish and being a good angler on the water. Classroom labs and on-water training make this a great class for beginners to speed up their focus on chasing big fish with a fly rod. Courses include equipment, gear, entomology, hands on casting techniques and knot tying workshops, and more.
2 Hour Introduction to Fly Fishing
Our 90 minute introduction course will show you the basics of equipment, casting, and preparedness for the river. We’ll get you enough knowledge to give you the confidence and safety you need on the water. Classes can be scheduled at any time and require 2 student minimum. Courses held at the fly shop and all ages welcome.
Basic Entomology
2 Hour workshop focusing on bug life basics as they pertain to fly fishing. Learn life cycles of local favorite fish food and how they behave in the river and water column. This session is sure to up your skill level and give you an edge on the river.
Tahoe Fly Fishing Outfitters hosts a variety of classes and clinics designed to improve your angling skills in a fun and interactive atmosphere. Our certified pro staff enjoy passing on their knowledge and want to help you catch more fish.
